The Pillars of Motivation
In this video Alan looks at the 2 pillars of motivation and the different movements we make towards or away from them.This is primarily a video post, but this will give a summary of what is covered in the video.
I was running through Epping forest while recording it, so it’s a breathy number.
There are 2 pillars. We can call them Pleasure and Pain or Carrot and Stick.
Same difference.
There are 4 directions of movement towards or away from these pillars. These are our motivations.
- Away from pain (most people’s initial default)
- Towards Pleasure (or the pursuit of attaining progress)
- Away from Pleasure (or progress)
- Towards Pain (often destructive though there are exceptions)
