Intent: This day is designed to add capacity for events such as Fell and cross country races, mountain and endurance races, Fan Dance race series. This day will be a weighted or non weighted fitness day and so can be used as a gradual progression for a basic level with no or little weight or as a more advanced day with weight up to 20lbs. The day will involve an introduction into Fell running, so you can get a good idea of the importance of pace throughout to ensure you are capable of covering ground over this distance. The day will be slightly shorter than usual due to the running aspect of around 3-4 hours. This is a great opportunity to orientate yourself on these hills, get to understand the concept behind fell running and your own ability and part of the two month progression that will take you to January Fan Dance time and fell running season.
Expectations: Too many people dont sign up for these days because they think its going to be some sort of SAS hill session. Its NOT or doesn’t have to be, these days are provided to encourage people to get out into the open air, in the hills, to start to help them to become healthier. If you want to be flying over the hills at speed with 65lbs then these days can be for you to though. We work at a nice progressive pace which varies depending on which team you are in which is changeable throughout the day. And with the added flexibility of weight carried it can make for a very chilled progressive day over the hills or a challenging advanced day that is gust busting. Either way they are great days, very chilled and designed to help, motivate you and increase your confidence in the hills and in the elements. This might help you with fitness or even taking your kids out on hikes in the future. Its all good.
Fitness Level: If you are not experienced please do not get put off, we have support staff that are there to facilitate supporting all our levels and we do that well. Come along, thats how you start your journey to be stronger in the hills, its not running for the entire 3-4 hours, its done in parts so we can progress you slowly and at a rate that is achievable. Joining instructions: These will be send out a few days before, you won’t need any specialist equipment other than a day sack, water proofs, warm kit, hat and gloves, a pair of walking trousers, boots and some food bars to eat.
