Fan Dance Light scales training Brecon Beacons

Intent: This day is designed to add capacity for events such the Fan dance and any of the test week marches with weight. This day will be a weighted day as part of a progression into speed over the hills. This day can be carried out non weighted and used as a gradual progression for a Basic level. This day will encourage moving up from the lower weight and speed of a fell run and capturing that progression with additional weight, but with only a slight increase. The intent is to keep the speed of the fell work. The day is designed to run inline with other previous fitness days so that you progress slowly to a mid level weight but keep the same pace that we did on previous sessions.

Expectations: Too many people dont sign up for these days because they think its going to be some sort of SAS hill session. Its NOT or doesn’t have to be, these days are provided to encourage people to get out into the open air, in the hills, to start to help them to become healthier. If you want to be flying over the hills at speed with 65lbs then these days can be for you to though. We work at a nice progressive pace which varies depending on which team you are in which is changeable throughout the day. And with the added flexibility of weight carried it can make for a very chilled progressive day over the hills or a challenging advanced day that is gust busting. Either way they are great days, very chilled and designed to help, motivate you and increase your confidence in the hills and in the elements. This might help you with fitness or even taking your kids out on hikes in the future. Its all good.

The day will involve an introduction of how to move over the ground with a good consistent pace, and what is involved body  wise for  water and nutritional intake. Its hard to get over the hills on your own in the elements and work so consistently and that is what we want to show you on this day. We help you and teach you how to manage your pace, when to eat and the effects of hot and cold weather conditions on your mental and physical capacity.

Fitness Level: If you are not experienced please do not get put off, we have support staff that are there to facilitate supporting all our levels and we do that well. Come along, thats how you start your journey to be stronger in the hills or just in light undulation movement across the ground. All our days are based on a very manageable distance in the time given and is fully designed for a basic level of fitness. All we ask is that you can walk or jog lightly for a duration of 4-5 hours without weight before you attend the day.

Joining instructions: These will be send out a few days before, you won’t need any specialist equipment other than a day sack, water proofs, warm kit, hat and gloves, a pair of walking trousers, boots and some food bars to eat.
